"Within the child lies the fate of the future."
Our groups are split into two age groups.
We accompany the children in mixed-age groups – even in the primary school.
Here you can find out how teaching according to the principles of Dr. Maria Montessori works in our school. Just keep reading, and you will find out what you and your child can expect from us during the different phases of school life.
Why our school?
Our school is a full day facility and is geared towards you as working parents.
Therefore, there is not only marginal but also generous (payable) holiday care.
Our school is closed during the last two weeks of summer vacation and for two weeks over Christmas.
We are here for you and your child almost all year round with exciting and interesting offers. You can find out the cost here.

This is where it gets fascinating. It is incredible what your children can learn at this age! The children choose what they work on (yes, work… children love that!). At this time, we introduce language, the beginnings of math and culture, geography, art, music and more. There is no boredom here.
Of course, we also continue to support the children in aspects of everyday life. Pouring, working with tweezers or kitchen appliances all requires fine motor skills that your child can practice and develop here.
In addition, the children learn how to move in social groups – they learn how to share, work together and help each other.
The children also have the option to learn English and French playfully. For physical education, we use a nearby sports hall of a public primary school in Baar.
What our students say about futura (in German)
The entire facility is tailored to the size and possibilities of your children and invites them to linger, play and keep busy.
Your children can learn all the practical things in life – washing, cleaning, watering plants and much more. Or, to take care of themselves – wash their hands, dress themselves, and prepare food. All age-appropriate, of course!
Switzerland's compulsory kindergarten requirement also falls during this period.
Most children learn to write, read and learn the basics of arithmetic in the children's' house. Not because we push them, but because the children want to learn and are usually extremely inquisitive.
We encourage and support the children's' desire to learn in every way.
Communication plays a significant role in our classroom – not only in terms of words but also through music and other art forms.
And, of course, the children also learn using the beautiful Montessori materials, which are introduced by the teachers in "presentations'. These are an invitation to continue working with the materials presented.
The materials appeal to all the children's senses and allow them to absorb even abstract and complex content in a playful and straightforward manner.
We also enable the parents of our school children to experience school up close in our newly established PIE (Parent Information Event) meetings. Through these, they can get an idea of what their child is experiencing every day.
What our students say about the school (German)
Montessori pedagogy, like all concepts, can be interpreted and lived and executed in different ways. At the core, we adhere exceptionally strictly to the principles of Dr. Montessori and supplement where the modern world requires (computers, new social understanding, etc.).
Montessori does not equal Montessori – so we invite you to take a closer look and decide what is right for your child.
Learning is personal development. That is our principle, which aptly describes the educational concept of the futura school. According to the latest brain research, we all learn very individually. The logical conclusion for us: We create an environment that enables all children to find their OWN learning path.
With love and discipline. For independent and sustainable learning. That's what education, according to Dr. Montessori, means for us.
The teachers in elementary school (and, incidentally, already in the children's' house) observe your child and know where they are and what the next step in their learning can be.
In the presentations, to which the children are either invited or come to independently because they are interested, new learning areas are introduced. The children decide whether to take up the topic immediately or later.
Just arrange a visitation here – and we will answer all your questions.

The futura Montessori school first opened its doors in 2004.
For a whopping 6 children!
That was the result of a long journey by the founder, Renee Classen, who, after completing her university studies in Germany, first took the path to a regular German primary school.
Only to realize relatively quickly that this was not her path. The next step took her to a school for children and adolescents who needed individual support, especially in their social and emotional development.
This was what lead her to the work of Dr. Montessori.
A concept that she studies tirelessly – among other things in many advanced training courses – and taught at several institutions.
Until the desire arose, to open a school of her own, that would correspond precisely to her idea of Montessori education. And so, futura Montessori all-day school was born.
In 2008 the school was supplemented by the children's' house, and for the first time, the school accepted children from the age of 3 – an offer that was extremely well received.
The school has been officially recognized by the AMS (Association Montessori Suisse) for ten years. Today the school is an institution with more than 60 children (in Baar) and a branch in Zug (children's' house/toddler group) from March 2020.
The school also offers educators from other Montessori schools in German-speaking Europe Montessori training courses in the form of workshops and seminars, in cooperation with the futura school in Basel.
Training location
Due to the extremely high quality of teaching and the excellent reputation in the Montessori circles across Europe, futura is now a frequently used contact point for Montessori teachers in training – so-called interns – from Switzerland and abroad.
